ROWING.
POVERTY BAY' CLUB. Last evening Lloyd (osec) beat Kellett (ssec) in the semi-final for Mr W. Fraser’s trophy. The final will be got off tonight when J. W. Nicolas (scr) will meet Lloyd (3sec). In the double sculls for Mr E. P. Joyce’s gold medal Patty and Hansen beat Gardner and Clark fairly easily. Winter and Seymour boat Corbett and Boreham without difficulty. R. Patty and E. Hansen (12sec) will meet L. L. Winter and W. Seymour (4see) in the final at 5 o’clock to-night. GISBORNE CLUB. The final for the Cox Cup double sculls was rowed on the Waimata course last evening between Hansen and Wylie and Gerrard and Fraser. Hansen went ahead from the start and at the bridge had a length lead. Gerrard, however, made a determined effort at the finish, but failed to gain the judge’s decision by the narrow margin of a foot or two. The usual weekly committee meeting of the Gisborne Rowing Club was held in the boathouse last evening. Present— Messrs Gully (in the chair), Pycroft, Coleman, Quigley, Hansen and Hutton. A programme of the Wairoa Boating Club’s regatta to be held on 23rd January was received, but it was stated that at present there did not appear to be any prospect of crews competing. It was decided that the date for the closing of the entries for the President’s Fours be extended to Saturday, 28th inst. Entries for the Buscke Single Sculling Cup to close on the same day.
