ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
DETERMINED ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] CHRISTCHURCH, Doc. 25. A man named TV. G. Hay, 37 years of age, residing at Sydenham, Christchurch, was admitted to the hospital at midnight on Tuesday suffering from a wound on his throat, which he inflicted on himself with a razor. Whilst assistance was being got for him Hay attempted to drown himself in a bath. His condition is not considered serious. Hay is unmarried and love troubles are said to have been his reason for attempting to take his own life.
A SAD CASE. AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. William Montcrieff, amid died in the hospital from hemorrhage of the brain this morning. He was arrested in the street on Monday in a state of helpless intoxication.
WOM AN DIES IN EMPTY HOUSE. AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. Johanna Costello, aged 70, was found dead on the iloor of an empty house, which had been permitted to occupy until a tenant was found. The room she occupied was in a condition of indescribable squalor, which is remarkable, as the woman was reputed to lie possessed of means. A LABORER’S SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, Dec. 26. The police received a wire from Owakia yesterday that John Malier, a middle-aged and married laborer at Kahuika, committed suicide by shooting himself. •CYCLING SMASH AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, Dec. 20. A. lad named Arthur Castle, 15 years of age, was riding down a. liilfl beside the Northern Cemetery yesterdav when the machine got away. The boy waS thrown heavily and was taken to the hospital unconscious. His head is badly knocked about. He resides at Opoho. BOY CRUSHED BETWEEN . TRUCKS. AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. A boy named Michael Casey was crushed betwieen some trucks while playing with some companions to-day. One leg was bad.lv crushed and one rib was broken. His condition is critical. ■ ' •" ■ * • ' ,
