THE DOMINION’S HOLIDAYS.
AT AUCKLAND. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM) AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. Delightful weather prevailed for Christmas Eve and shopkeepers reaped a golden harvest, especially in the evening, when record crowds were in the streets.
Yesterday the weather was glorious and various excursions and picnics were carried out under ideal conditions. Glorious weather prevailed for Boxing Day and all the people of Auckland and many thousands of visitors made holiday under ideal conditions. The great attraction was the Auckland Racing Club’s big meeting, which opened at Ellerslie. About 31,000 people witnessed the Auckland Cup. BIG CROWDS AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Dec. 26. . The holidays passed off quietly in glorious weather. Christmas Eve saw the city streets thronged with joyous crowds of merrymakers, and business people generally wore smiling faces. Though the navigation of the streets was a matter of some difficulty the good nature prevailing among promenaders never failed to find a safe way out of tight cornesr. So far no accidents to mar the holiday temper have been reported.
CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 26. The weather for the holiday was fine but dull, and the day passed off without any mishap of a serious character being recorded. At public institutions, as is customary, the season was marked by special dishes at meals and other appropriate observances.
NAPIER DESERTED. [BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT] NAPIER, Dec. 26. Real Napier weather was experienced here for the holidays. To-day the town was absolutely deserted, everyone visiting the country, the motor bike sports and the tennis championships at Hastings being well attended. The Petane hack races were well patdonised, private and public picnics taking the balance. To-night the four theatres are crowded out, over 4200 witnessing the three picture performances and Carrie Moore in the new theatre.

There .was a largo attendance at the Turanganui green and an interesting .sweepstake tournament tciok place. The green was; sharp and some even howling resulted.
