SHOT BY HIS PARARMOR.

AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY

SEQUEL TO AN ALL-NIGHT CAROUSAL.

[INDEPENDENT PRESS CABLE] SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 8.

With a bullet in his abdomen, Robert Widney, a wealthy real estate broker, of Los Angeles, California, lies in hospital. He has only a bare chance of escaping death. t Mrs Frances Lyons, the wife of Billy Lyons, of Denver, did the shooting, and she is held by the police, pending the oiucome of her attack. The tragedy followed an all-night carousal, in the woman’s apartments at the Sorrento Hotel. Champagne flowed freely, and in a forgetful and inebriated moment Widney happened to call Mrs Lyons by his wife’s name Bess.

Jealousy, it is said, aggravated the woman into seizing a revolver, with which she shot Widney in the groin. The victim went to Los Angeles to bid a last farewell to Mrs Lyons, who is stated to have been a former para" mor of his. She was formerly a chorus girl, and is 22 years of age, while Widney has had -10 years’ experience of life. Mrs L vons protests her innocence. She said: “Bob was examining the revolver, which was a present from jnv first husband, when it went off.’’ that Widney exonerated her after the shooting. The police know nothing of this.
