ATHLETICS.

MATCH OVEK THE HALF-MILE. A match has been arranged between H. C. Davy and P. C. Turnbull (Wae-renga-a-hika) over a distance of 880 yards, at one of the forthcoming sports—either Muriwai, Te Karaka or Tologa. Davy is to concede Turnbull 25 yards start. The match is to be for £25 a-side. TE K All AKA SPORTS. Exceptionally large nominations liavo been received for the Te Karaka sports, which are to be held on January 2, the number averaging about 14 in each event. Much interest attaches to the Te Karaka Handicap, for which the first money will work out- at about £l-5. Mr George Williams has donated a gold medal valued at £5 5s for the competitor scoring most points in the Te Karaka Handicap. Mr R. Carlyle has also donated three very handsome prizes for the married .ladies’ race, for which the first prize will be a chest of drawers, the second a pair of curtain poles, and the third a beautiful framed picture. A special train will leave town for the sports at 9 a.m., leaving Te Karaka. on the return journey at 4.40 p.m. The committee lias been working hard to ensure all the arrangements being in perfect order, and everything points to the gathering being a memorable one in the history of local athletics.
