ENTERTAINMENTS.
THE OPERA HOUSE,
'lliis everting at 8 o’clock the Opera House Pictures will resume, after an interval of some days, the theatre being otherwise engaged. The new series to be screened this evening is said to be well up to the high standard of excellence set by the management. The star picture is a film entitled “The Unwritten Law." and as the title suggests is a very sensational story. The lack of a law allowing revenge where husband and wife have been separated by an outside influence has long been commented upon by a number of people, especially in the United States, where even murder has been condoned under the plea of Tlie Unwritten Law.” The film under consideration tells of such a case where the wife becomes a laiv unto herself, and seeks to be avenged for the loss of her husband’s love. The acting is said to be of a very high order in this film, and the setting is also reputed to be very fine. The series, also includes a fine selection dealing with various interesting subjects. “Duck Farming” is an excellent educational film and illustrates the rearing of the domestic duck from the incubator, stage to the period when it is prepared'and put on the market, “His Honor at Stake.” an emotional drama, also tells a most interesting story well worth seeing. This film was well received at the matinee on Saturday afternoon and called forth rounds of applause from the large gathering of children and adults, present. ‘A Shocking Complaint," a comic of an exceptional character, deals largely with the wonders of an electric battery. “The Speed Demon” deals with a subject of interest to all at the present stage of the world’s history. The film shows both laughable and exciting incidents whilst a motor car is exceeding the speed limit. In addition to t-he pictures enumerated the programme also includes a splendid collection of photo-plays, all of a very high order in the picture-world. This series will be screened for two nights only, as the management announce extra special attractions for Wednesday (New Year’s) night.
BELLE CROME COMPANY
The Belle Crome Company entertained another large audience on Saturday evening, when the clever variety performance brought to a close the present season. The company have provided a show that will doubtless stand them in good stead should Gisborne be included in a future itinerary.
