BOY’S SAD END

[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] DUNEDIN, Dec. 30... News has been received that a boy named John 'Gordon Mitchell, a son of Mr W. Mitchell, of North-East Valley 7, was the victim of a fatal accident at Clydevale on 'Friday 7 . Deceased, who was 8-i years of age, went to Clydevale on Friday for his holidays and while out with Mr Bunn he was thrown from a horse, fracturing his skull. The bov died on Saturday.

AN UNFORTUNATE CASE. DUNEDIN, Dec. JO

An inquest was held this afternoon before Mr Graham (Coroner) on the body 7 supposed to he that of Charles B. Jarman, which was in the hush near the Northern Cemetery on Thursday.

Dr. 'Gordon MacDonald said the body was that of a man of about oft Tin. in height and about 40 years old. In the man’s pocket be found * new razor which had not been used. tae also found a bank receipt upon the Union Bank with a name like- Jarman on it. In the shirt in the region of the heart he found a small hole and in the singlet and skin there was a cjorresponding hole. He would say 7 the man died from a bullet wound.

Capt. Beaumont said C. B. Jarman was a clerk in hie office for about five years. 'Witness last saw him on the evening . of December 2. Jarman knew witness had ordered the bopks to he overhauled. Jarman said everything was in order and witness had no doubt on the matter- Jarman did not turn up next morning and on the hooks being examined it was found that there was a deficiency of £62. It was very difficult to state ,the exact amount of the deficiency without a complete audit of the books. Witness identified some writing on a letter found on the body 7 as that of Jarman. The coroner saicl there was no doubt in his mind that the body was that Of. Jarman and he brought in a verdict that the cause of death was a gunshot wound self-inflicted while deceased was in a state of insanity.
