FIFTH ROUND YESTERDAY

[PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM! NELSON, Dec. 30. The fifth round of the chess championship tournament was concluded this afternoon. Following are the details of the game between Sainsbury and, Mason. This was a Guioco Piano opening, which Sainsbury turned into a Max Large attack. From move twelve the position was exciting, but by covering his open file by two knights Sainsbury gave Mason a chance to push 'on an attack on the king’s wing, his pawns ultimately forcing a way for his queen and rook. On move nineteen Mason won the exchange and pressed the attack, exchanging a rook for a bishop. Sainsbury was checkmated on the 36th move.
