FUR GOAT RIVALS.

VICTORY WITH £73SO^OARMENT

Rivalry between two wealthy New York women for the possession of the finest set of furs has endea in the triumph, so far as the present- social season is concerned, of Mrs Ada Drouillard, wife of Captain Pierre Droulllard, of Fifth Avenue. After several years’ competition Mrs Drouillard, who inherited £2,000, 000 from the tobacco magnate,-Paul. A. Sorg, was defeated last January, when her sister-in-law, Mrs Sorg, appeared at the opera in a Russian sable coat worth £4,000. Mrs Drouillard immediately placed an order with a New York firm for “the best sable ccat in the world.”

An expert sent to Europe returned three months later with over 100 Russian sables, valued at 7000 guineas. Six of the cleverest furriers were then set to work on the garment. ' Matching-, selecting, cutting, and piecing the skins occupied them for six months.

The product of their labors has now been delivered to Mrs McDougall. The coat is 58in. long, weighs slightly mere than seven pounds, and is composed of rich brown skins with a sprinkling of white-tinped hairs all so beautifully matched that they seem to form one piece. The new garments is unanimously voted the’finest fur coat in New York.

Mrs Sorg is meanwhile bemoaning not only her temporary defeat, but the loss of her £4OOO coat, which was mysteriously stolen recently from her private box at a New York theatre, where she was entertaining a party of friends:
