VICTORY FOR N. S. WALES CYCLISTS. AN EXCITING SPRINT. < [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT! (Received Jan 5, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 5. Nearly 40,000 people witnessed the finish of the six days’ race. There was splendid sprinting throughout the day, and during the last few laps the pace was terrific. The overlapped teams retired just before the close, and there was a great fight among the remainder, McNamara eventually beating Spears and Scott by half a*length, amid great excitement. The distance covered was 1533 miles, and the teams finished in the following order: — McNamara and Corry (N.S.W.) ... 1 Spears (NvS.W.) and Kirkham) (Victoria.) 2 Scott (N.S.W.) and Keefe (Tas.)... 3 Crook and Henry (VSi'ff.) 4 O’Shea and Smith (New Zealand)... 6 The overlapped teams, including Summers (New Zealand) and Russell (N.S.W.), who tied for eighth place, covered 1832 miles and two laps. Spears beat McNamara in a sprint from the post to the 1800 mi!e_s mark. The cyclists’ record was 253 miles behind 'that' of last year.
