On the Gisborne green yesterday a number of interesting friendly matches were played. Results were as follows: — Hooper, Primrose and Crawford (s) 20 v. Barry, Allen and Bennett (s) 22. F. O’Meara, Williams and Colebrook (s) 19 v. Mahoney, Redstone and Ambridge (s) 22. Hennessy, Greaves and H. Miller (s) 23 v. Johnston, A. O’Meara, and Barber (s) 21.

YESTERDAY’S PLAY

[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM! AUCKLAND, Jan. 8. The Northern Bowling Association’s tournament was advanced a further stage to-day when the section winners played off on the Auckland green. The fourteen teams were divided into three sections, there being four teams in Sections B. and C. and six in Section A. The weather was perfect in the morning, but shortly before 3 o'clock a heavy shower fell making the turf heavy, hollowing are details of the games:

A. SECTION. —First Round.— Dingwall (Reinuera) 25 beat Jones (Grey Lynn) 9. Osmond (Auckland) 26 beat Pa rata (Teliiwi) 14. Wakerley (Rocky Nook) IS beat Lamb (Carlton) 17. —Second Round. — Parata 20 beat Wakerley 15. Dingwall 22 beat Lamb 20. Osmond 20 beat Jones 18. —Third Round. — Parata 19 heat Jones 14. Wakerley 20 beat Dingwall 19. Osmond 22 beat Lamb 19. B. SECTION. —First Round. — Hudson (Mt. Eden) 19 beat Haldane (Takaka) 10Bell (Wellington) 24 beat Power (Te Ivuiti) 19. Power 22 beat Haldane 12. Bell 20 beat Hudson 18. —Third Round.— Power 24 beat Hudson 17 '. Bell 17 beat Haldane 16. C. SECTION. —First Round.— Prince (Newtown) 20 beat Casey (Grey Lynn) 18. Nash (Palmerston North) 26 beat Cohen (Wanganui) 12. —Second Round.— Nash 2S beat Casey 11. Prince 16 beat Cohen 15. ' , —Third Round. — Nash 24 heat Prince 16. Cohen and Casey did not play. To-morrow Bell (Wellington). Nash (Palmerston North) and Osmond (Auckland) will meet in the final. A last-try match will also be played between the teams defeated in intersectional play, and the consolation match will 'also be continued. The teams remaining in tbe latter competition are: London (Wanganui), Crowley (Greenmeadows). Parsons (Ponsonbv), Wylie (Newtown), Ballinger (Wellington), Blooper (Mt. Eden), Craig (Gisborne), Foy (Hawera), Pragneli (Masterton), Mayer (Victoria), Gray (Auckland), Saywell (Feilding), ' Eagleton (Dominion Road), 'Walker (Ponsonby), Kilgour (Carlton).
