J. D. WILLIAMS' CO. SENSATION.
MR. W. MILLER TO BE MANAGING DIRECTOR. MR. WILLIAMS ARRESTED ON CHARGE OF HARBORING.
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT) SYDNEY, Feb. 1.
The directors of the Williams Amusement Company carried a motion dispensing with the services of J. D. Williams, managing director, from to-day. The duties will be assumed by Mr. W. B. Miller. In a published statement, Mr. Williams contends the directors have no power to dispense with his services. That can only be done by a two-thirds vote at a general meeting of shareholders. One director suggested to him a Royal Commission should inquire into the affairs of the company, and Williams agreed to this as the best course. Another director, however, said that- it was foolish. A few days later the 'directors declared a dividend of Is 6d a share, despite his opposition. Williams says the dividend helped to cause the present Stock Exchange panic, because it swallowed up the company’s ‘ ready cash. (Received Feb. x, 5.5. p.m.) A sensation was caused in the city on Saturday afternoon by the arrest of James Dixon Williams, late managing director of the Greater J. D. Williams Amusements Company, on a charge of harboring and assisting Frank Lloyd, wlio was arrested last Monday at Auckland on a charge of forging an order for the purchase of 150,000 of the company’s shares.
