The. death is announced of the Princes* Felix of Salm-Salm, who before her marriage was Miss Agnes le Clerc. She was an American famous for her services to the wounded m the American Civil War, for which she received the rank of a captain of the federal Army. . T r Later she- was given the Iron Cross for hospital work in the Franco-Prus-Sia princess Felix of Salm-Salm had an unusually eventful and romantic lire. As Miss Agnes le Clerc. she was at one time a rider in a circus. Prince Felix of Salm-Salm, a young Austrian officer, who had been compelled to leave the army-because of his debts and who had gone to America to volunteer in the Civil War. fell m ove with Miss le Clerc, and married her. Prince Felix of Salm-Salm afterwards raised a volunteer regiment and his wife, who was a splendid horsewoman, accompanied him into tno field. He retired with the rank of the Civil War Prince Felix of Salm-Salm went to Mexico and joined the Emperor Maximilian, who made him an aide-de-camp. When the Emperor was overthrown and captured the Prince was arrested and narrowly escaped being shot. He owed his escape to his wife’s intercession with Jmirez, the rebel loader. She also endeavored to secure the Emperor s release bv bribing his guards. Prince Felix of Salm-Salm returned to Europe, entered the Prussian army and was fatally shot at Gravelotte. His wife became an army nurse. After his death Princess Felix of Salm-Salm I resided at Karlsruhe.
