Prince Felix of Salm-Salm afterwards raised a volunteer regiment and his wife, who was a splendid horsewoman, accompanied him into tno field. He retired with the rank of the Civil War Prince Felix of Salm-Salm went to Mexico and joined the Emperor Maximilian, who made him an aide-de-camp. When the Emperor was overthrown and captured the Prince was arrested and narrowly escaped being shot. He owed his escape to his wife’s intercession with Jmirez, the rebel loader. She also endeavored to secure the Emperor s release bv bribing his guards. Prince Felix of Salm-Salm returned to Europe, entered the Prussian army and was fatally shot at Gravelotte. His wife became an army nurse. After his death Princess Felix of Salm-Salm I resided at Karlsruhe.
