WHERE LADIES CONGREGATE.

THE POLO TOURNAMENT. • Notes by “Vivienne.” The great event of the week was the annual tournament in connection with the Poverty Bay and East Coast Polo Association, which took place at the Matawhero Polo Grounds. Each day there were a number of lady spectators present. Some of those nresent during the week were: Mesdames Murphy (senr), J. It. Murphy, Ralph Murphy, W. G. Sherratt, T. Sherratt,. Randall Sherratt, Reynolds (senr), G. Reynolds, J. Clark, J. W. Williams, G- Black, Kells, Agnow Brown, Mackenzie, G. Stead, Jamieson, Dodgshun, Traill, Reevo, Fenwick, E. Matthews, R. Scott, Jex-Blake, Pattullo, W. Ensor; Misses Donner, Bennett, Black (3), Grey (2), Russell, Williams (J), Evans, Pyke, Sherratt, Reynolds, Hi no and Walters.

Some of the gentlemen present were Messrs Sherratt (4), Reynolds (2), Murphy (2), Black (2),* Dodgshun, Traill, Monckton, Stead, Nairn, Mackenzie, Russell, Nelson, Kells, Dymock, Gillingham and Dr Reeve. On Thursday evening a most charming ball was given in the Garrison Hall, which was prettily decorated with ferns, flax, and pampas grass. Vita Bros.’ string hand discoursed sweet melodies from a raised platform in the centre of the hall. One side of tile hall was curtained off as a supper room. The supper tables were artistically decorated, with shaded yellow flowers and light green foliage. There was a good attendance, and dancing was kept up til the early hours of the morning.

Mrs Donner was tastefully gowned in a picturesque amethyst velvet robe. Mrs J. Dods wore an oyster satin robe with a royal blue ninon overdress. Mrs Jamieson, of Hawke’s Bay, wore emerald green satin. Mrs W. Mackenzie, of Hawke’s Day, wore shell pink ninon over satin. Mrs G. Stead, of Hawke’s Bay, white satin with an overdress of black ninon.

Mrs Branson wore a black satin toilette with jet trimmings. - Mrs E. G. Matthews wore a pretty ciel blue with a blue fish net overdress. . - . Mrs C. Thomas was gowned in sky blue satin, with gold figured ninon overdress. Mrs Pattullo was charmingly gowned in palo blue crepe de chine. Mrs Jex-Blake wore white satin with a lac-o overdress. Mrs Arthur Rees wore a handsome black luce robe. Mrs Rauclall Sherratt wore palest mauve silk mcssalino with a cluster of violets on the corsage. Mrs T. Sherratt was attired in old rose oharmeuse with deeper shaded trimmings. ' Mi's H. Bennett wore white satin churmeuse with ninon and lace tunic. Mrs R. Scott wore black lace over white satin.

Mrs J. Rutledge wore black ninon over silk.

Mi's C. Buscke was charmigly gowned in a chit* Paris,ienne robe. Mrs E. ii. Mann was attired in a handsome gold brocade robe. Mrs Hugh "Williams was prettily gowned in an ivory satin with an overdress of honiton lace. Mrs C. A. Fenwick wore a pretty ducliesse satin with a shadow lace overdress with pearl trimmings. Mrs Dodgslum, silver grey crepe de chine with touches of palest blue and lovely silver lace on corsage. Miss E. Gray wore a pale pink satin with a grey ninon overdress. Miss Waters wore a black lace robe. Miss IC. Sherratt was attired in emerald green crape de chine. Miss 13. Black, ivory satin, with a ninon overdress with pretty bead embroideries. Miss Tv. Williams wore floral taffetas with panniers of white ninon. Miss E. Williamson wore a pretty pato blue ninon overdress. Miss M. Faulkner,grey ninon over pink silk. Miss V. Russall wore emerald green ninon over silk. Miss D. TTine wore a palo pink silk with a ninon overdress. Miss M. Bus, old rose ninon over white satin. Miss D. Bennett, shell pink satin with a blue ninon overdress. Miss Donner,\ cherry colored ninon, draped effect over the same shade of satin. Miss H. Cameron was gowned in primrose yellow satin. Miss B. Reynolds, emerald green silk with pretty gold trimmings. Miss T). Bull wore a dainty pink silk frock. Miss Q. Graham’ wore ivory satin with gold trimmings. Miss B. Maclanrin, salmon pink crepe do chine with hall fringe trimming. Miss Graham, of Queensland, wore vieux rose eharmeuse. Miss R. Chrisp wore a pretty pink ninon. Mi ss Mvcrs was gowned in a, red velvet robe with a bunch of violets on the corsage.
