Sir Joseph Ward, in an interview referring to Mr Pearce’s (Federal Defence Minister) recent statements, denied any failure of the Admiralty or New Zealand to carry out the 1909 agreement. He hoped the policy of contribution would continue, and said he did not believe there was any possibility of New Zealand joining, in the maintenance of the Australian fleet.
