WOMEN IN CONFERENCE.
NO-LICENSE, THE TOTE, AND AN OMNIBUS RESOLUTION. [PB.ESB ASSOCIATION TELEGSAIU NELSON, March 11. 'Hie following resolution was passed at the W.C.T.U. Convention this morning: “That the Convention heartily endorses the pledge-taking campaign of the Alliance, and urges upon local unions to try to induce every voter to promise to withhold his or her vote from any candidate who will not undertake to remove or substantially reduce the three-fifths majority. , Mrs Sadlier addressed the Convention oh the Bible-iii-Schools question. A hearty>vote of thanks was accorded her.. . „ It was further resolved : ‘‘ (1) That steps be taken to make it illegal for hoys under .sixteen years of age employed by racing clubs selling cards, tickets, etc., on public streets or elsewhere'; ~(2) that the Government should be urged to take a referendum whether the totalisator should be retained or not;, (3) the Convention emphatically protests against disabilities which women at present suffer in-the guardianship of children, and calls upon’ Parliament to amend the law in the direction of giving, women equal rights with men, especially in regard to religions instruction ; (4) that the Convention protests against the retention of the totalisator ,on the grounds (a) that it gives the.Government’s'sanction to. a vice which is disastrous to social life, (b) that it is inconsistent with the numerous enactments- against gambling in other florins, (c) that public revenue is derived from a practice which all wise 'Governments have found necessary to to suppress.
