MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12. (Before Mr W. A. Barton, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Alfred Bachelor was fined 10s and costs for drunkenness. HIS FOOT SLIPPED. To Noera, a Natire. when charged with drunkenness, said through an interpreter: “J was not drunk, hut my foot slipped.” Constable Henderson said accused was very drunk at the wharf and had fallen into the water, so that the police had to rescue him. Accused was fined Is and costs (2s) and interpreter's fee (4s), in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. BY-LAW BREACHES. Alfred Campbell was fined £1 and (7s) for cycling on the footpath m Palmerston Road. - Ernest Kehm, who is in the Hospital, and forwarded an admission of the offence, was fined £1 and costs (7s) for cycling by night without a light. “LIKE A GENTLEMAN.” Daniel Moriarity pleaded not guilty to having refused to quit licensed premises (the Bridge Hotel) when requested to do so, and to having made use of obscene language; both offences on December 3 last. Horace Simpkin, barman, said he refused *to serve accused because he bad enough drink, and gave further evidence as to accused's language and behavior. Further evidence was given by Herbert Maxfield, who said accused warned the barman with the words, “I am the renowned Dan Moriarity, tho puncher.” Accused said he was staying at the hotel.
