A PARISHIONER'S WIFE
“AN ABOMINABLE LIE.” lINUEPEIIDENT PRESS CABLE! LONDON, March 4. Rev. Owen Williams, curate of an Anglican Church in Clerkenwell, London has prosecuted David Pountney, a former parishioner, for slandering him, by saying _ that he had misbehaved himself with Mrs Pountney. The plaintiff asserted that this was an abominable lie, and in cross-ex-amination he denied that he ever put liis arm round the verger.’s wife’s waist. He explained that on.one occasion he simply placed his hancl on her when he reminded her of a promise that she had made to attend his Bible-class. He also refuted a number oH other allegations, in which his name was connected with women of his parish. Evidence was given that Mrs Pountney had visited Williams’ rooms.
