SLAUGHTERMEN'S WAGES.
COMPANIES-DECLINE TO CONSIDER OLD UNION’S DEMANDS.
MATTER REFERRED TO THE ARBITRATION COURT.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.]
WELLINGTON, April 7
The dispute between the Wellington Slaughtermen's Union and meat companies has been referred to the Arbitration Court. When the parties met before the Conciliation Council Mr Pryor, on behalf of the companies, said that he was instructed to say that the companies were not prepared to discuss the situation with the old union in any shape or form. ■ Tho local companies had entered into agreements with the other unions, and there was nothing to be gained by discussion. If the union was riotprepared to accept the new agreement there was nothing to do but to go to court. :
Tho Conciliation Commission accordingly had no alternative but to commit the dispute to the Court.
