“IN THE NAME OF HUMANITY.”
GOVERNOR’S STIRRING APPEAL. APPALLING FLOODS IN OHIO. [INDEPENDENT PRESS CARLE.] WASHINGTON, March 25. President Wilson has received the following wire from Governor Cox, of Ohio: Wo have asked the Secretary of War for tents and supplies or rations. In the name of humanity see that they arc granted at the earliest possible moment. The situation is critical. I believe that there will be 25,000 people unsheltered to-night. The President replied that what had been asked for would be sent immediately. Another message from Governor Cox ran:— The exact extent of the appalling flood in Ohio is still unknown. Every hour impresses one with tlie uncertainty of the situation. Tho waters have assumed unknown heights, and it will be hardly less than a miracle if villages and towns are not wiped out of existence. 11l mv judgment thero has never been such a tragedy in the history of the Republic.
