FREE COACHING TO BE PROVIDED BY THE STATE. [PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.] WELLINGTON, April-7. As a result of complaints about the examinations imposed under new regulations on detectives and constables desiring to qualify for promotion, the Commissioner, Mr Cullen, stated to-day that .although such examinations would not entail more than was asked from a fifth or six standard boy, the authorities'have decided on a step to facilitate and encourage members of the force to prepare for advancement. They have arranged with an experienced educational coach to teach by correspondence all candidates who contemplate sitting for the September examinations. Under the regulations this tuition will embrace general knowledge subjects in the syllabus, and the services of the coach will be available free of charge to any policeman or detective in New Zealand who cares to avail himself of the same. The name of the coach is kept secret at present.
