A VERY SERIOUS SHORTAGE. [BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT] AUCKLAND. April 14 The short-age in the supply of milk has noAv become so very acute that the outlook for the coming winter is very serious.

In conversation with a representative of one of the larger milk-supply-illg firms of Auckland, your representative was informed that the position, of the milk supply is now the worst known for the last 30 years. It is due to the lack of rain. Although there has been an occasional wet day still practically no heavy rain has fallen in the Auckland district since last September.

Rain set in to-day, hut, coming as it does from the south-west, it will not be of verv great benefit as the nights are noyv too cold to permit of pasture growing rapidly enough to provide much feed for the coming winter, and the effect on t?uo cows will be equall bad as the cold nights must decrease the supply of milk. It would be passible even new to bring in milk from further away wen' it not for the fact that under the law it can only be supplied in town from duly registered dairies and farmers, who do not send in milk all the year, ai e not willing to go to file expense entailed in way of concrete flooring an other things specified to complete requirements' under the Act fc r the shoit time niiUc would be required.
