HOCKEY.

'r H K It EFERE ES y ASSO C TATI OX. The annual general meeting was held last evening, when the annual report was read and adopted. The following officers were elected For the year:—President. Mr E. H. Pavitt r vice-president, Mrs R. X. Jones, Mr J. Martin, and Mr E. L. ®/aude; chairman, Mr H. Garrett ; management committee. Chairman, Secretary, and Mr Geo. Buscke; hon.

secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Sinel. ■Numerous remits to the P.B.H.A. were passed, and from the enthusiasm displayed, it augurs well for hockey this season. The annual report stated :

“The committee hn.s pleasure in placing before members the first annual report of this Association as a separate body. It- was first comprised of the management committee of the P.8.H.A., but last year it was decided to form a separate association affiliated to the N.Z.H.R.A. . The. Association startl'd off well with .six active referees, while many club players became honorary members, their services being available when required. Referees were allotted to every match under the P.B.H.A. control, and their rulings and manner of conducting the games appeared to give general satisfaction. This year it is hoped with ‘increased membership to provide two referees for each competition match. .Referees wore greatly handicapped during the past season by the lack of playing grounds, and the committee would like to urge upon all those interested in hockey in Gisborne to combine, and endeavor through their representatives to obtain more playing room, 'fhe statement of receipts and expenditure shows the Association to have a small credit balance. In conclusion, the committee would like to express its deep thanks for the heartwhole manner in which members gave their services last season, and it hopes

that their interest will continue during the corning year. Both players and referees are out for sport, and

the enjoyment- of the grand old game of hockey, which is all the keener when it- is remembered that ‘‘fair play is bonnio play.”
