President Wilson has decided to defer action in connection with the Californian Alien Lands Bill pending the .passage of the measure through the State Legislature. The President has had frequent conferences with the Japanese Ambassador.
The question is arousing great interest in the United States.
TOKIO. April 19. A meeting of 20,000 discussed tho Californian Land Bill. Fiery orations were delivered. Matsumara, a member of the Diet, urged the despatch of a fleet. Others recommended that questions between Japan and America should be settled once and for all, otherwise they would recur and lead to war. If the Bill passes Japan will apply to the United States for the Federal Government’s permission for the Japanese to become naturalised.

A VIOLATION OF A TREATY
BILL TO BE REFUSED SIGNATURE. '
(Received April 21, 1.20 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 20. Mr Bryan has telegraphed to the Governor of California asking him to withhold his signature to the _ AntiAlien Bill on the ground that it violates the existing Japanese Treaty.
