BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S INTENTIONS. ' [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] LONDON, April 30. Tlio Prime Minister, Mr Asquith, in a letter to the Lord Mayor announcing the proposed annuities, said that these were solely a Government undertaking, while allowing equitable augmentations from the Mansion House fund. Newspapers state that Lieut. Oates’ relatives are not mentioned. Lieut. Oates was a bachelor, and had an ample fortune, but a portion of the subscription will be applied to a suitable memorial.
