THE EAST COAST MAIL SERVICES

Some -misconception scorns to have existed at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce on Friday with reference to the delivery of mails beyond Tokomaru Bay. It was, lor instance, stated by one member that the mail which left Gisborne by the steamer on Wednesday morning was allowed to lie at Tokomaru Bay until it was picked up by the coach on Friday. By another member it was asserted that there were two mails a week to Waipiro, but only one to Port Awamii. Still another member declared that the mail that went, up on a Wednesday to Tokomaru or Waipiro remained there until Saturday morning for the coach mail from Gisborne before going on to To Araroa. Seen upon the subject Mr Renner (the Chief Postmaster) on Saturday put matters in their correct light. He explained that there were as a matter of fact, two mails to Port Awanui and To Araroa every week. Every Monday morning, for instance, the coach leaves Tokomaru Bay for the townships in question. Included in this mail is not only the mail which goes from Gisborne on a Saturday morning, but also mails which are brought down to Tokomaru Bay from the north by the steamer on a Sunday. Then,, again, there is a second service every \Vock starting at Tokoin arn Bay on a Thursday morning. This mail includes matter sent uu to Tokomaru Bay by the steamer .on the Wednesday and -mails from the North which reach Tokomaru Bay by the steamer on the Wednesday. Thus it will be seen, added Mr Benner, that there are two mails to Port Awanui and To Araroa every week.
