The Huddart-Parker ■steamer Victoria is due from the South to-morrow morning and leaves for Auckland later in the day. The r.h. Wanaka, from Auckland, is duo to-morrow morning. She loads manure for the Bluff. The b.s. Ripple is due from tho South early to-day. The Petone will sail to-day. The Kowhai got away yesterday afternoon with sheep for Lyttelton. Mr E. Spiers, purser of the Maitai, and Mr Walker, purser of the Navua, have exchanged positions. Mr H. Lukins, third engineer of tho Mapourika, left that vessel at Wellington. ..Mr R. Lewis, late of the Maitai; has Riled the vacancy.
CASUALTIES AT SEA. ' ■ -rw;'' ' . • A return published by the Board of Trade on- March 20 shows that during the 12 months ended June 30 last there were reported casualties to 7644 vessels, of" 6,600,112 tons, 706, of 261,585 tons,, becoming total losses; 1739 of 1,386,830 tons, being involved in serious casualties, and 5199 of 4.951,697 tons, being involved in minor casualties. The total number of lives lost was 6675 compared with 4432. This total oonsists of 2736 passengers and 3939 orews of vessels. The number of seamen lost in steamships was 1331, and of passengers 855, against averages of 466 seamen and 205 passengers for the past 20 years. The number of lives lost in steamships was greatly increased by the sinking of the Titanic, with the loss of 1498 lives.
