THE WAIHI MINE. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TF.I/ro(RAM.. "WAIHI. May 22. - As c f, iif>idcvab! ■ inrere.-'t attaches to devel-'.panont w- r’ks at the bottom h. vol of tho Waihi mi no,, a Freer Association representative sought an interview to-day with, the- superintendent (Mr. Barry) w/itb regard to the matter. The first question put was in connection with the water in No. 4 shaft. “Probably,” sad Mr. Barry: “the water tapped is connected with the reef system, and until No. 5 shaft—where main pump in o- is done—is slink to the required depth, the water v/i'l remain in No. 4 shaft. The necessary sinking, etr., will occupy some months. Meanwhile development work at No. 10 level is progressing, just-as it was prior to the invasion of the water into No. 4 .shaft. It makes not the slightest difference to the progress on the reefs at No. 10. The water has only stopped for the t ine being the further sinking of No. 4 shaft. Tho principal work in hand at No. 10 level is driving east and west on tho Empire and Royal lodes respectively. Driving on the new reel at this' level is also in progress.” Referring to No. 2 shaft, Mr- Barry said tlie shaft was down to water level, and this was as far as tiny intended sinking it. Thev were op.ming out at No. level at this shaft with the intention of driving for the Edward lode, and the lode would be first intersected from this point. Referring to tho installation v.f, an electric power plant at Ho rah •ra and the progress of the transmission lines, Mr. Harry said that the date of completion could not be determined.
