SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT.

One of the principal attractions to lovers of outdoor sport yesterday was the annual tournament of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association. A fair number of • spectators witnessed the representative matches in the morning between last, year’s ladies’, rep re-, sentatives and the next best eleven ladies’ team, while the match between the Thursday and Saturday men’s representatives drew a good number of supporters of both sides. pin ‘ the former game last year’s representatives proved! too good for their opponents, eventually winning by 9 goals to nil. when the seven-a-side tourney was played, and great credit is due to the committee, consisting of Messrs O. R. Olsen, A. H. Ross, and W. Ogilvie, for the prompt way in which they got the matches off. Owing to there being a tie for first place in the B. section between Mercantile A. and West End, the final had to be postponed until Saturday next at 2 p.m., when the section winners (Mercantile A. and Civil A.) will play off. During the day Messrs H. Armstrong, Sinel, Lewis, Grant, Garrett, and Cassin refereed the matches.

Old Girls won both A. and B. grade ladies competitions: Ladies’ Representatives (9) v. Next Best Eleven (nil). Scores: Miss R. Malcolm 3, M.. Fairlie 2, L. Fanning 2, M. Fromm i, B. Butterfield 1. Saturday Men’s Representatives (2) v. Thursday Men’s Representatives (2). Huston and Hawkins each found the net for .Saturday’s, and Cassin twice for Thursday.
