“THE WATCHMAN” SUED. MR. CA R MICH AEL PLAT NTT EE. SYDNEY, Juno 3. Mr. Ambrose Campbell Ciinniehael, Minister for Public Instruction, lias issued a writ .against the “Watchman” for £2OOO, in respect of alleged libel. The hearing of the action has been set down for Friday, June 13, before a special jury of 12. . The libel alleged appeared m a leading article of the “Watchman ’ published on Thursday, February 13, 1913, and had reference tjp a speech delivered .at the Protestant Demonstration at Clontarf on Anniversary Day, 1913, by Mr. Thomas Henley, M.L.A., in which he commented on Mr. Carmichael's administration of the Public Instruction Department. Messrs Barry and Norris are acting on behalf cf Air Carmichael; and Air F. A. Davenport on behalf of the “Watchman.” Mr ShancL K.C., and Mr Broomfield have been retained’ for the “Watchman.”
