EXHIBITION TIME BOXING
_THE BIG CARNIVAL SCHEME.
[BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT] AUCKLAND, June 19. Some misunderstanding seems to exist concerning the big exhibition boxing carnival which it is proposed to hold in Auckland next summer. At the last meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council held dn Christchurch, the impression apparently prevailed that the carnival was being arranged by an individual promoter, and it was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Minister for Justice. Under the existing law in New Zealand contests <ian only be promoted by the registered boxing associations, and a Christchurch paper, in a recent issue, published a statement that the Auckland Exhibition time carnival was being promoted by a private individual and that the Northern Boxing Association had officially denied having an agreement with anyone for the promotion of a special programme. That the Boxing Council, like the newspaper quoted, is unaware of the exact position .is evident. A legal contract between the Northern Boxing Association and Mr B. Doyle, of Auckland, has been in existence for some time past. The agreement was drawn up by the Association’s solicitors and is duly, signed and sealed by the Association officials. It is provided, in the course of this agreement, that under the general control of the Association Mr. Doyle shall, between January Ist and June 30. th, produce six contests. The purse is to be provided and guaranteed by him, and the Association is freed from any liability in this respect. It is provided that the contests must be held at a place not more than four miles from the General Post Office. The stadium and accommodation for competitors.has to be provided by Mr. Doyle at his own cost, and the Association agrees to apply for the necessary permits to hold the contests in accordance with the Police Offences Act, of 1908, provides all the officials other than the referee and undertakes not to hold an- other carnival between October
1 and June 30. The net profits are to be divided between the Association and Mr. Doyle in a proportion agreed upon. The proceeds from picture rights are to be similarly divided.- As a bona fple Mr. Doyle makes a cash deposit with the Association of £250.
