In the House of Commons, replying to Mr Swift Mac Neill (Nationalist), Mr Harcourt (Colonial Secretary) said the British South African Company had conveyed 1,200,000 acres, to the Liebig Company at one shilling per acre. There was no reason to question the validity of the purchase.

The engineers’ ballot at Southampton was largely in favor of accepting tho employers’ offer of an increase of Is 6d per week, thereby terminating their 15 weeks’ strike.
