The man Austin was remanded on the charge of murdering the girl Mitchell at Stamford. He accounted for the blood on- his clothes by stating that lie cut bis finger and that he had been killing calves. His employer testified that accused left his employ three days before the murder, and that he did- not kilt calves.
[Tlie body of a girl named Ivy Alitcliell was found hidden, in some scrub at Stamford. She had been outraged aiid her throat cut from ear to ear. Tho girl was eleven years of age. She had been visiting friends two miles distant from her home and started homo In the early afternoon. As slie did not return at dark her father and brother made a search, and discovered tho body in the thick scrub. A farm laborer named Ernest Austin was arrested on suspicion.]
