LADIES’ MATCHES

♦Judging by tliG crowd that asscnihled at the Reserve yesterday to witness the match, High School A. v. Old Girls, ladies’ hockey has a strong hold in Gisborne and the spectators were rewarded by seeing one of the best matches this season. Both sides were out to win and from the bullyoff till the whistle sounded “no side the game was fast, open and very willing. A draw would have been a utting conclusion, but it was not to be, High School winning by 3to 2. Ihe game had not started long before Miss Hall scored for High School, and later on Aliss Butterfield added another, while Aliss Solvander scored for Old Girls. In the second spells, Aliss Hall again scored for High School, and Aliss Rutli Alalcolm did the like for Old Girls. The ladies wish to thank two of the Tukapa team for marking the ground off for them. Air Garrett controlled the game and his efforts were ably seconded by Messrs Lewis and Alorse, linesmen. GISBORNE v. HIGH SCHOOL B. This match was played on the High School ground and resulted in a win for the Gisborne Ladies by 5 to 0. The game was far more even than the scores indicate, and it was only the superior strength’ and skill of the older team that gave them' victory. The High School B. are to be congratulated on their display, and it is certain that before long they will turn .the tables on their old opponents. Mr AlcLean refereed. No men’s matches were played yesterday, on account of Territorial parades.

THE NORDON CUP

[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] AfASTERTON, June 19. The first Nordon Cup hockey match was played to-day in beautiful weather. There was a good attendance. Alanawatu, the challengers, were defeated by Wainarapa, the holders, after a fast and interesting game. In the first spell Alanawatu showed to the best advantage, but in the second spell the local men proved- superior. The first spell ended owe goal all, and in the SyecoiKl ! spell W&it'-arapa secured one and Avon the match by'two goals to one. For Waira.rapa, Tumncf-iffe and Reid scored, and Fitt' scored for the visitors.
