PERSONAL NOTES.
Dr. V. Usher, of Nelson, who spent his boyhood in Gisborne, revisited Gisjborne yesterday. \ Mr W. D. Lysnar returned to borne by yesterday morning's steamer. Mr W. Johnson. Registrar of Deeds at Nelson, arrived on a holiday visityesterday morning. Messrs H. Hill and Strachan, inspectors for the Hawke’s Bay Education district, arrived in Gisborne yesterday. Mr Strachan went on by steamer to Tokomaru Bay, and will inspect the East Coast schools, while Mr Hill will proceed inland and inspect- the schools dn the interior, commencing at Puha to-day. Both inspectors will inspect the town and suburban schools in about a fortnight's time. Rev. Father Carran. of Ormond, left Gisborne for Queensland 1 st night by the s.s. Malta!. on a health recruiting trip, and will be absent f r about four months. Prior to his departure. Father Carran was presented by his parishioners with a substantial cheque as a mark of their appreciation. Rev. Father Finn, who arrived by yesterday’s steamer, will have charge* of Ormond Parish during Father Curran's absence. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Turf Club yesterday. Mr John Clarke said that latest word was to the effect that Mr J. W. Nolan, now abroad, was enjoying much better health than when he left. The Club re-elected Mr Nolan to the position of president.
