While ho was in England recently Hon. Jas. Allen addressed a number of.meetings under the auspices of the National Service League, in which Lord Roberts is a prominent figure. A resident of Yorkshire, who heard' Mr Allen speak at Bradford, writes appreciatively of the effect which he produced on that occasion. In a letter addressed to Dr. Allan Thomson (son of Mr G. M. Thomson, M.P.), the writer says: —“Mr Allen was delightful. He scored a tremendous success at Bradford, a. storm centre of labor. The audience was not an easy one, and was inclined to shout ‘rot,’ etc., blit he gripped them the whole time, silenced hecklers, answered inquirers, and inspired his own supporters. It was one of the finest efforts we have had made for us in the north of England.” Ex-Sergeant-Major William Berry, of Gredition.
