FOOTBALL. TOKOMARTJ v. TE KARAKA. A DRAWN GAME. The Tokomaru touring team visited Te Karaka yesterday and met a district fifteen. The team went out by the morning train, but tho match did not commence until close on 3 p.m. Drizzling rain all day somewhat spoiled the fixture, tho ground being in a sloppy state and the ball heavy. W. AlacDonald captained the local team, and Erekana was in charge of the Tokomaru players. Tokomaru kicked off, and play commenced in earnest immediately. It was almost solely confined to the vanguard, and play was the reverse of spectacular. In the second spell, Tokomaru had easily the best of the deal, but tho game ended scoreless. Both Hall and Bell were within an ace of scoring for the visitors on separate occasions. Fail-lie, as full-back, played the best game for Tokomaru, while Noble, Brown, Coombo, Dean and Erekana played serviceable games. For TV Karaka, Turei, Graham and Eru were prominent. Mr H. S. Williams refereed.
The team play a local fifteen at Whatatutu to-day, and leave for home by to-morrow’s steamer. On their return to Tokomaru, the visitors will be called on to play a home team. Tins ov’Giit is boing looked forward to with some interest.
