AVELLINGTON, July 8. The Unity Congress resumed, and adjourned for five minutes, in order to demonstrate sympathy with the Johannesburg strikers. The debate on the finance clauses terminated. After a number of amendments had been rejected, clause 15 was amended to add after the word delegates “each delegate shall be a bona fide member.” Considerable discussion took place as to whether the additional words “or official” be also added. Finally it was decided to omit the words “or official,” delegates saying that they were out to kill professional representation. This completed the debate on the clauses of the constitution.
At the afternoon sitting an amendment to the financial clauses of the constitution was carried making the capitation Is per quarter per member for all organisations. The constitution was then adopted with a needments. It was resolved that no official of the United Federation shall -eceive m< rc than £5 weekly with 10s per daj apenses, plus travelling fares. The following nominations for office were then received: For president, Alessrs W. T. Young, E. J. Howard ; lor i icepresident, Alessrs AA 7 . Parry, T. Blcodworth, Al. Fagan, J. Do.vgriy, _S. Boreliam, Al. Hampton. Alessrs li. Semple and P. H. Hickey wers elected organiser and secretary ni;l treasurer respectively unopposed.
