Something in the nature of a record for this time of the year (says the Mataura “Ensign”) was established by a pen of 14 white leghorn pullets recently at the poultry farm of Mr William Foubister, a return of 14 eggs in one day being recorded. Wood-blocking to the value of £3230 is to be alid down in Wellington during the current financial year. This refers to the wood-blocking of Lower Cuba Street, down to the junction of Mercer Street and Jervois Quay. Many overcoats have gone astray in Wellington lately, the owners having in most cases missed from hotels. Evidence points to systematic thieving, and two arrests of suspected persons have been made by the police. No bankruptcies nave been recorded in Pahiatua during the past six months. The last estate was filed, in October of 1912. Two bankruptcies were registered in Napier last mouth, one being from Waipukurau.
