REEKING OF BURNING FLESH.
FEARFUL BULGARIAN ATROCITIES. CONFIRMED BY BRITISH CORRESPONDENT. FURIOUS FIGHT AT ISHTTB. [UNITED PEES 3 ASSOCIATION —COPY BIGHT , (Received July 10, 11.10 p.m.) LONDON, July 10. The “Telegraph’s” correspondent visited Nigrita. He confirms the reported atrocities, and says the Bulgarians killed or burned alive at least 4/0 villagers, while another 1100 were murdered in the surrounding villages, while the women were subjected to nameless tortures. Nigrita is reeking of burning flesh among the smouldering ruins. The correspondent states that prior to occupying Nigrita the Greeks fought with the utmost fury and dadh, and the battle lasted until nightfall. The contending troops rolled rocks upon each other among the precipitous ranges. The Bulgarians lost 500 killed and 2000 wounded, and the Greeks lost 100 killed and 200 wounded, while they captured 2000 Bulgarians. Another correspondent alleges that the outbreak of war was due to General Savoff acting independently of the Government. This has led to his resigning and the appointment of Erus6ophile Dimatrieff as eommander-in-chief.
The Greek Legation has made representation to Britain regarding the atrocities, which the Bulgarians, are perpetrating on the defenceless Greek villagers. Reports from Belgrade state that the Bulgarians penetrated 18 miles into Servian territory and burned 41 villages. On their way to Konagovatez, Servian reinforcements caught 12,000 Bulgarians on two sides and routed them, and they took refuge in the mountain gorges, where they were utterly annihilated. An effort to cut the Pirot line was checkmated, and the whole frontier was cleared, a battery of quick-firers being captured. Details from Ishtib show ihat the Servians achieved a brilliant victory, the Bulgarian right wing of 50 battalions with 100 guns being completely defeated and separated from the left wing, consisting of 60 battalions and 120 guns. The left wing withdrew under cover of the centre, and the Bulgarians retreated on Radioviteh and Petchova. Servians and Greeks from Strumnitza are pursuing them. Turkey has requested Bulgaria to withdraw her troops from the last new frontiers, and Bulgaria has agreed, asking in return the assurance that Turkey will not attack her.
BULGARIA’S CRAVE SITUATION,
ROUMANIA ASSERTS HERSELF.
(Received .July 10. 12.20 a.m.l
VIENNA, July 10. Authentic information indicates that Bulgaria’s situation is grave. Her armies are retreating before the Greeks and Servians and they are rearing a rear attack. The “Slav” newspaper states that the battlefield between Krivolak and Ishtib was covered with 11,000 Bulgarian dead. The wounded were helplessly left during the retreat. Apart from these another 4000 were succoured by Servian Red Cross Brigades.
Roumania insists that the present Balkans balance shall be maintained, otherwise she will use force to prevent either Servia or Bulgaria predominating.
It is reported that the Bulgarians have evacuated Kavalla and Dedagatch.
