ENTERTAINMENTS.

PATHE PICTURES. The beautiful pictorial adaptation of the well-known story “The Wives of Jamestown’’ delighted a crowded house at His Majesty’s Theatre last night. The Ivalem Company lias in this big film succeeded in producing a dramatic masterpiece, which should go far to enhance their already ingii reputation. The brilliance of the acting, the richness of the mounting, and the gripping interest of the story created a most favorable impression last night, and the hearty and spontaneous applause at the finish testified to its popularity. “The. Twilight of Her Life,” a charming romance of a lifelong love, and' “Under the Stars and Stripes,” a thrilling Western drama, were a couple of films which greatly pleased' the crowd. As pretty a little idyll as has yet appeared was “Sammy Orpheus,” which deals with a rustic piper who plays so sweetly that not only the ladies, but the birds of the air and the beasts of the field, worship him. The bright Vitagraph comedy, “It All Came Out in the Wash,” in which Lilian Walker and Maurice Costello do some brilliant work, called up enthusiasm. Other films which were demonstrative!- received were “50-Mile Auto Race.” the “Pathe Gazette,” “Markets of Kabyba,” and “Timid Lovers.” One might j travel far before seeing a better programme than this bright series, which will hold the screen again to-night.

OPERA HOUSE PICTURES. Another large liou.se witnessed the fine programme at the above popular house last evening. “By Unseen Hands” and “Death of Lucrece” are subjects to lie remembered and are well worth a visit to-night. “Pathe Gazette” and “Friends o'f the Birds”

are also instructive and interesting colored l subjects. The comedies are up to the best standard. A special matinee for Saturday is announced, when a special programme will be given to the hcildren. The 10 per cent, matinees are tending to become very popular, and interest is already being shown in the great concert to cap the management’s efforts to give the young ones a treat.
