HOOKEY
A BLACKBOARD LECTURE. XORDOX CUP DATE FIXED. About 20 ladies and 12 gentlemen, including a number of referees, attended at the Band Room last even-
ing for the first lecture on hockey play. Mr Ross was in the chair and stated that it was the intention to hold a series of these lectures for the oeni fit of players and. others interested it hockey and. hoped that at the rmxt lecture to be held next Friday eye mi g a fuller attendance would Le in evidence, particularly as regarded the men. Mr O. R. Olsen then gave an instructive blackboard lecture, showing first the correct plan of a field and the position of the various play ms. He then went into the p-ay of each individual position and treated the subject m a masterly manner. At the conclusion Mr Sinel proposed 1 a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Olsen for his /very inductive lecture. This was carried with-applause. Practices for the ladies will be held on the Reserve every Tuesday and Friday morning and for the men on Mondays and Wednesdays. The representative teams, both ladies and gentlemen, will bo selected after the'matches on Thursday next. Saturday, September 6th, has been definitely decided on for the Nordon Cup match with Wanganui. The men s team will leave here on the 3rd and return on the 10th. The (Saturday competitions will be resumed to-day, when West End mee Mercantile B. and Civil A. meet Mercantile A. * both at the Resei\e.
