Dr -J. Clive Collins left for Christchurch last night on a brief holiday visit.

Sir James Carroll has received condolatory telegrams on the death of his late private secretary (Mr. \\ illiam T. Gordon) from the Hon. W. H. The funeral of the late Air David Moore took place on Saturday afternoon. Rev. T. Keith Ewen officiated and a large number attended to pay their last respects to their deceased friend. The wreaths, of which theie were many, were beautiful, and included ones from + he employees or the Gisborne Brer-vy. the Gisbo.ne Ladies’ Hockey Club, and the AA'est End Hockey Club, showing the great esteem with which Air Aloore was held, not only by his fellow-employees but also by a large circle of hockey players. His was a sterling, generous character, for under an unostentatious exterior beat a heart of gold.

AA’idespread regret will be expressed on receipt of the news of the death cf Airs. Alfred Carter, which occurred at the Gisborne Hospital yesterday. The deceased lady, who was 53 years of age. was a daughter of Air. BrcokeTaylor, one of Gisborne’s earliest solicitors. and was born at Auckland. She was very well known in this district, having resided here for many years. The late Mrs Carter was a sister of Aliss Brooke-Taylor, of Childers Road, and married Air. Carter, who was on tho Customs staff at Gisborne, about 30 years ago. She accompanied her husband when he was transferred to Christchurch, and later proceeded with him to Nelson, when he was appointed Collector of Customs there. Mr. Carter retained this position until his death, which occurred a few years back. The late Airs. Carter was very popular as a girl in Gisborne, lior sunny disposition and kindliness of heart endearing her to all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. The funeral will leave Aliss Brooke-Taylor’ s residence, 503 Childers Road, at 2.30 o’clock to-morrow afternoon, for ALikaraka Cemetery.
