LOANS ON NATIVE LEASES.

ANOMALY BETWEEN TWO ACTS. MINISTER PROMISES RECTIFICATION. [BY TELEGRAPH—PARLIAMENTARY > CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON, August 11 The discrimination made by the State Advances Department between the Native land leases issued under the Act of 1905 and those granted under the Act of 1909 was again referred to iii the House to-day by the members who brought up the question Last Friday night. The Minister for Native Affairs (Hon. W. H. Herries) said that the Native Department was not responsible for the position that had arisen. He did not think that the obstacle of the granting of advances under the 1909 Act was one such as could be seen without a microscope. He intended, however, to put the matter right in this year’s Native bill, and if it were possible to do it without doing any injustice to any of the parties concerned, he would make the uew provision retrospective.
