EXCURSION FARES TO BE

ISSUED

A well-attended meeting of the Committee of the Competitions Society' was he'd las evening, there being present Messrs E. H. Mann (in the chair), J. H. Bull, R. Cole, J. C. E. Kissling, L. T. Barnard, J. M. Samson, F. J. Rowley, M. G. C. Pasco, L. Etheringto’n, V. R. liarre, and the secretary (F. R. Ball). The Secretary submitted a statement showing the entries received for each of the various sections, the total number being 560, which number must constitute a record for a first festival outside of the main centres.

Letters were received from Mr M. A. Macandrew and Mr H. Barry Coney, L.R.A.M., notifying their intention of remaining in Gisborne for tlio final demonstration night. No reply has yet been received from Mr Warren in this connection.

The Station-master wrote advising that the Railway Department had decided to issue both first and second class excursion tickets to competitors on all lines. The tickets would be issued from tho 2nd September', and would be available for return up to the 20th September. It was resolved that casli prize winners have the option of substituting trophies for cash, but all trophies chosen must he subject to the approval of the committee. . , The question of the time limit for the dialogue was raised, and it was decided that the time limit of 7 minutes for own selection items did not apply to the dialogues. A limit o. 12 minutes was fixed for this section. The programme committee submitted a rough draft of the" programme for the first five days. The programme was approved subject to a few alterations, and it will be put into print forthwith. . The next meeting will he held on Friday, the 29th jnst...at 4.30 p.m.
