SOCIAL AND GENERAL.
There was a large attendance of enthusiastic players at golf last Saturday. The ladies’ competition was won by Mrs King, who was presented with a very dainty little gold brooch. Afternoon tea. was supplied by Mesdames Gully, Crawford, and Miss Donner. Mrs Wallis and Miss Norah Wallis have returned to Gisborne. Mrs Macdonald, of Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs Traill. rHUtti Club Baffi A most successful function was the hall given by the members of the Poverty Bay Hunt Club on Wednesday evening.
The hall was gaily decorated, and the various flags suspended from the ceiling gave a festive appearance. On the stage the scene was sweetly pretty, softly shaded electric lights throwing a charming glow, whilst bamboo, pot-plants and flowers enhanced the charming effect. A capable orchestra supplied delightful music, whilst some very popular extras were played by Mesdames Hine, Branson, Starkey, and Kenway. Upstairs in the supper room, a delicious repast was much admired, and here again the floral scheme of decorations was much admired.
The frocks worn were, of course, most fascinating. Vivid as many of the colors are which are now being worn by daylight they are entirely outshone by the brilliant tints which are now seen in the ball-room.
Designs of the conventional order, with many shadings of two or even three colors are also much worn. Amongst those who were present I
noticed : Mrs V 7. G. Sherratt in a softly flowing gown of ninon de lil, and drapings of Chantilly lace on the corsage. Mrs Pattullo chose a dainty gown of ivory lace over silk fashioned witgold trimmings. Mrs Putledge wore a gown of black silk with an overdress of scintillating ninon.
Mrs R. Sherratt wore mauve niagra crepe do chine effectively draped and swathed over silk.
Mrs Humphreys wore a well-cut gown of black liberty silk with effective trimmings. Mrs Jeffries wore daffodil satin with a pretty tunic of black chantiliy lace.
Mrs Kells wore ,\axe blue silk, with an effective tunic of black silk net. Mrs Waclismann wore satin cnarmeuse with a pretty tunic drape of Chantilly lace. Mrs George Reynolds wore crepebroche with scintillating trimmings. Mrs Matthews was gowned in silver grey charmeuse with embossed trimmings. Mrs C. Thomas wore brocaded torq noise silk fashioned with gold. Mrs Maude wore an effective gown of black chiffon silk. .Mrs John Murphy wore heliotrope silk with ninon of a pretty hue, and waist band of silk. Mrs Donner was gracefully gowned in ivory silk, with a scarf of mauve tinned ninon.. Mrs Henderson wore a gown of ivory point lace, prettily fashioned over silk.
Mrs Hine wore black panne velvet and a pink rose was tucked in the corsage.
Mrs Herbert "Williams wore Chantilly lace over silk gracefully fashioned.
Mrs Omerod wore a modish gown of black panne silk with saxe bine cloak. Mrs Kenway wore an effective toilette of silk rabbi prettily fashioned. Mrs 31. U. Burke wore heliotrope ninon and silk prettily draped.
Mrs Carl 'Williams wore black dotted silk net over champagne silk. Mrs Singer wore a pretty frock of white Oriental satin draped effectively with ninon and lace, and emerald green ribbon was encircled in her coiffeur.
Mrs Fenwick Wore a striking toilette of ■white lace over silk with drapings of tangerene silk. Mrs Hutchinson wore grey satin charmense made in swathed effect. Mrs Gibson wore flamingo ninon draped effectively over creme satin charmeuse, and an Oriental drape of Chantilly lace. Mrs.Hockley wore dove grey ninon swathed and draped over petal pink silk, with modish effect. Mrs Beane wore ivory silk with buttercup silk trimmings. Mrs Buscke wore tinted charmeuse with tawny-shaded ninon veilings.
Mrs Hutchings wore a draped gown of ivory charmeuse fashioned with white ninon.
Mrs Jex-Blake wore white Oriental charmeuse effectively draped with lotus blue satin.
Mrs Coop wore flame colored satin with a tunic of cream Spanish lace.
Mrs Coop wore pearl silk gracefully fashioned with ninon.
Mrs Starkey wore saxe bine and autumn tinted silk draped a la mode. Mrs Sutton wore black Chantilly lace draped over helio tinted silk. Mrs Gully wore ninon over heliotrope satin with red roses on the draperies.
Miss Donner w'ore cornflower blue ninon made in modish effect, with a waist band of flame colored silk. Miss Gossett wore emerald silk gracefully fashioned. Miss Hunter-Brown wore a pretty frock of satin and ninon prettily trimmed with silver face and caught up
