Tho following tribute to Major Meiklejolm, the Y.C. who gave his life for the children, and who received a "military funeral in London on Bth May, is paid by the "Daily Chronicle” :
"He was of the splendid company of men who counted their own lives cheap when they might serve others. On the Indian frontier, and again in South Africa—where, at Elandslaagte, lie lost bio right arm and won his V.C., while rallying the Gordon Highlanders —ttie faced death so often that its grim novelty passed. But the people who bared their heads as he went through London yesterday Avere thinking less of his battle honors than of the last, great honor of all, when lie laid down his life for the little ones in a London park.
"Last Saturday week Major Meiktlejohn AA-as riding through Hyde Park to attend a review of the University of London Officers’ Training Corps. Sudtlently his horse bolted, taking fright at the band. Straight ahead was a clear gallop, and a chance to pull up. But there Avere children in the way; some of them might be hurt, and with his one arm the major wrenched the horse’s head aside and set it for the railings. Ho knew the horse- could never jump them. It was certain death, and ho kneAv’ it.”
