J\ r ° u-x-n P a P ers * n said Mr Mas- • •' * *t will be seen that surveying is proceeding very satisfactorily ana quite as expeditiously as, or perhaps cien more so than, at any previous tln ’e m , history of the Dominion.” the following extracts from the report; were read by Mr Massey: “The work tor the year has been a very favorable one indeed and, taken as a whole, the area surveyed shows an eX ua?i S °, vc ! r that of the previous year. 1 phe total cost of the surveyors and their parties amounted to £ll3 661 which is £24,131 in excess of that of the previous year. This is easily accounted for the first place by the greater output consequent on the employment -of additional surveyors along with the difficulty in obtaining suitable hands for field parties to meet the still great demand for settlement lands. . .> The work coming under the heading of Settlement Surveys has during the year been pushed on with special vigor and reaches a total area of completed surveys of 430,651 acres, Ihese are comprised under the different heads as follows: Rural 409,915 acres; village and suburban 2678 acres ; Maori Land Board subdivisions 17,720 acres; town allotments 332 acres.
“The area cf Native land surveyed during the year readied a total" of 671,343 acres in 2755 subdivisions, which is a record for more than 20 years past. This total is made up of 653,617 acres in 2714 subdivisions of Native Land Court surveys and 17,726 acres in 41 subdivisions of Maori Land Board surveys.”
