TENDERING PASSENGER STEAMERS
ALTERATION IN HOCUS OF SAILING FOR SOUTHERN BOATS.
HUDDART PARKER CO. FIX 7.30
AS UNIFORM TIME
An important alteration in the hour of tendering steamers for the South has been decided upon by Messrs. Huddart Parker and Company. Up to the present the hour of departure of the tender with outward passengers for steamers for the South was fixed at 5 o’clock on Sundays and at 7 o’clock on Wednesdays. It has now been decided by the company to fix the hour of departure at 7.30 o’clock on both days. Mr. Cowles, shipping representative for Messrs. Dalgety ana Co., local agents for Huddart Parker and Co., informed a “Times” reporter yesterday that the change had been decided upon in consequence of repeated representations made by travellers and the public to the effect that 7 o’clock did not allow sufficient time after dinner, while 5 o’clock was altogether too earlv an hour. . „ , ~ It is understood that in future the Huddart Parker steamers will not leave the bay for South until after midnight, and it is claimed that this will give ample time to connect with Hie express at Napier. Of course, the hour of departure will rest entirely at the discretion of the masters of steamers, who will leave earlier if weather conditions Tender it necessary.
