LAND SETTLEMENT.
LAST OF THE CROWN LANDS IN THIS DISTRICT. THE LUCKY APPLICANTS. There was a large attendance at the Lands Office yesterday afternoon, when the Huiarua Crown lands block of 7436 acres, adjoining the Waipaoa and Tauwhareparae blocks, was balloted for in five sections. Mr R. T. Sadd, Commissioner of Crown Lands, conducted the ballot, in the presence of the members of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board. Mr Sadd stated that preference would bo given to landless applicants who had children dependent upon them, or who during the past two years had been twice unsuccessful at ballots. Messrs C. Blackburn and W. Bell were appointed scrutineers The result of the ballot was as follows :—■ Section 1, block V., 1340 acres, capital value £4020, half-yearly rental (£BO 8s (two applicants).—A. T. McIntyre, Feilding. Section 2, block V., 907 acres, capital value £2500, half yearly rental £so.—Mr and Mrs L. J. Peach, of Tokomaru Bay, were the only applicants, and the former elected to take the section. Section 1, block VI.. 1500 acres, capital value £4500, half-yearly rental £9O (five applicants).—W. McK. Arundel, Tauwhareparae. Section 1, block IX., 943>-acres, capital value £2130, half-yearly rental £42 12s.—Stewart Hastie. Run 98, area 2746, half-yearly rental £llO , (five applicants).—Clias. Stevens, Christchurch.
